Public transport in Alicante — TRAM, bus, train, taxi

Updated July 2026

Alicante is small enough to walk end-to-end in 30 minutes, so most tourists never need more than the TRAM. Here's what you actually need to know, plus our live tools to skip the guessing.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a metro in Alicante?

No underground metro — the closest equivalent is the TRAM, a tram-train that goes underground in the city centre (Mercado, MARQ, Luceros) and above ground along the coast to Benidorm and Dénia.

How much is a TRAM ticket in Alicante?

1.45 € single (Zone A, city centre and Postiguet), rising to ~4 € to Benidorm. Buy at machines on every platform — coins, notes and card.

Do I need a travel card for Alicante?

Not for short trips. If you stay 5+ days and move around, the SUMA card (~4 € deposit, refillable) gives ~35% discount on TRAM and city buses.

How do I pay for the city bus?

1.45 € cash to the driver, or the same SUMA card as the TRAM. Alicante city buses (TAM) are white and orange.

Can I use Google Maps for Alicante buses?

Yes, but ETAs are often wrong. Use our live tools: /eta-autobuses-alicante for accurate arrivals.

Is Uber available in Alicante?

Uber and Cabify operate but the fleet is small — expect longer waits than taxi. Taxis are widely available; hail from a rank or call 965 91 09 91.
